Our Core Values

Ten fundamental principles that guide our educational philosophy, shape our school culture, and form the foundation of character development at ABHS Garuga.

At African Buddhist High School Garuga, our ten core values are not just words on a wall they are living principles that permeate every aspect of school life. From the classroom to the playground, from academic pursuits to vocational training, these values guide our students toward becoming compassionate, competent, and conscientious global citizens.

Obuntu Bulamu
Humanity and shared responsibility

Obuntu Bulamu embodies the African philosophy of Obuntu.’I am because we are.’ We cultivate good manners, respect, courtesy, and consideration for others. Students learn to treat everyone with dignity, practice proper etiquette, and understand that their character and behavior reflect not only themselves but their families and communities.

We honor and preserve African cultural heritage and moral values. Students are taught the importance of community, respect for elders, collective responsibility, and African wisdom traditions. This value connects students to their roots while preparing them to engage confidently with the global community.

Critical Thinking and Curiosity
Intellectual Growth

We encourage students to question, analyze, and think independently. Critical thinking and curiosity are essential for innovation and problem-solving. Students are taught to approach challenges with an inquiring mind, seek evidence, evaluate information, and develop creative solutions to complex problems.

Right mindfulness meditation is a cornerstone of our Buddhist approach to education. Students practice meditation daily to develop present-moment awareness, emotional regulation, focus, and inner peace. This practice enhances learning capacity, reduces stress, and promotes mental well-being.

Empathy and Kindness

Wise compassion goes beyond mere sympathy it’s the active desire to alleviate suffering combined with skillful action. Students learn to develop empathy, practice loving-kindness, and understand the interconnectedness of all beings. This value promotes harmony, reduces conflict, and builds a caring school community.

Concentration practice develops the ability to focus attention, resist distractions, and sustain mental effort. Through meditation, study skills, and disciplined practice, students cultivate the concentration necessary for academic excellence and success in any endeavor they pursue.
